WORCESTER, Mass. — Assumption College ice hockey junior forward Brennen Shaw has been named as a 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Third Team selection, as voted on by the nation’s athletic communications directors who are members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The honor marks the fourth time this season that Shaw has been recognized for his exceptional efforts in the classroom. The junior, who last month was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District I First Team for the first time in his career, is also a two-time Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference selection. In April, he was awarded the prestigious 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Ice Hockey Sport Excellence Award, which goes to the top student-athlete in each of the league-sponsored sports.
Shaw is the 30th Greyhound in the history of Assumption College to earn a Capital One Academic All-America honor and is one of only two student-athletes to represent the Northeast-10 Conference on this year’s list.
Appearing in all 25 games for the Hounds, Shaw posted eight points on one goal and seven assists during the 2013-14 season. He is a four-time recipient of the Assumption College Student-Athlete Director’s Citation, awarded to student-athletes who achieve over a 3.5 grade point average, as well as a two-time recipient of the Assumption College Premier Student-Athlete Award, honoring student-athletes who achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Shaw is a graduate of Presque Isle High School and also attended Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. before enrolling at Assumption. He is the son of Larry and Taffy Shaw.
