PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Maine Department of Transportation has announced the planned construction schedule for the second stage of the Presque Isle bypass project to divert tractor trailer traffic from downtown.
Construction could begin as late as summer of 2025 for the 6.17 mile south section of the Presque Isle bypass connecting the Phase I section at Conant Rd. to the Route 1 at the Westfield town line, and the $84.3 million project will take around two to three years to complete.
The bypass would divert tractor trailer traffic from Presque Isle’s Main Street and improve safety at existing high crash locations, according to Ethan Flynn, project engineer for Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc.
Total project costs are approximately $84.3 million that includes a $44.1 million federal grant awarded to the Maine Department of Transportation used in the construction of the 6.17-mile bypass project.
