50 Years Ago — Sept. 26, 1973
Teachers workshops – Two Acadia School 6th grade teachers, Mrs. Jean Wilbur and Roger Dechene attended a four day workshop in Caribou this week in 1973. The workshop sponsored by the State of Maine Dept. of Educational and Cultural Services, is providing exposure and practice with the Human Development Program, a sequential curriculum process for teaching in the affective domain.
25 Years Ago — Sept. 30, 1998
Cyr was named citizen of the month – Leola Cyr of Madawaska was named October’s “Citizen of the Month.” Cyr is involved in many youth activities such as Youth Ministry and Girl Scouts. As a Girl Scout leader, Cyr has helped the community with projects which she has led the troop through with no complaints and never-ending drive. She was nominated by community members for her dedication to the children, as well as the community.

St. John Valley tags 11 moose over 1,000 — The first week of moose hunting is in the books, with a total of 183 moose tagged at tagging stations in Fort Kent and Van Buren. Quigley’s Building Supply and Outdoor Center in Fort Kent tagged a total of 168 moose over the first week, with the biggest bull coming in at 1,106 pounds. The biggest spread was recorded at 63.5 inches. The station tagged 11 moose that weighed more than 1,000 pounds.
