75 Years Ago – October 21, 1948
Patricia Ivey, Linnaeus, Head Ricker Class of ‘52 – The Class of 1952 of Ricker Classical Institute met this week for the purpose of electing class officers. This class, with representatives from twelve Maine towns, already has become active in affairs at Ricker. Eleven students are members of the Ricker Choir, three are members of the Ricker Orchestra, nine girls are members of the Ricker Chapter of the F.H.A., and eleven are members of the chorus for the Ricker Minstrel Show. Several of the freshmen boys are now trying out for a position on the basketball team. At the recent class meeting, Miss. Patricia Ivey was elected president; James Blenkhorn was chosen vice president, Miss Joan E. Gardullo was elected secretary and the treasurer was Dana A. Briggs. Miss Elaine E. London, will be the freshman representative on the Student Council.
50 Years Ago – October 24, 1973
Pvt. Ricker Has Completed Army Basic Training – Army Private Bruce E. Ricker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Erold E. Ricker of Monticello, has completed eight weeks of basic training at the U.S. Army Training at the Infantry, Ft. Dix, N.J. He received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, combat tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, and army history and traditions.
Houlton Motors Takes On Parker Brass Franchise – Houlton Motors Company of 64 North Street, has been franchised to market the products of Parker-Hannifin Corporation’s Brass Products Division. The announcement comes from George C. Stephens, vice president of sales for the Corporation’s Fluid Connectors Group. Houlton Motors specializes in sales and service to the logging, trucking and other industries in Northern and Eastern Maine.
25 Years Ago – November 11, 1998
Town and Country Clothing/Footwear donates Nike balls to elementary schools, rec center – Two local schools as well as the Houlton Parks and Recreation department, were recent recipients of a sports donation. Steve and Andrea Hutchinson, owners of Town and Country Clothing/footwear, presented Houlton Elementary Principal Bob Cowperthwaite, Houlton Southside Physical Education teacher Shawn Graham and Houlton Parks and Recreation Department Program Coordinator Marie Carmichael with new Nike basketballs and soccer balls.
