Houlton Aces Take Pair From Woodstock Bowlers – The Houlton Aces rolled a pair of wins over a Woodstock team last week, running their victories over the Canadian aggregation to three straight. Harold Getchell starred for the Aces in the Friday night encounter at Woodstock and Larry Reece was high in the Sunday night match.
County Oil Men To Elect Officers at Parley Here – The Southern Aroostook County Petroleum Industries Committee will meet Monday, for the purpose of electing officers. Leroy T. Snowdon, executive secretary of the Maine Petroleum Industries Committee, Augusta, will report on the committee’s activities and future objectives. A color film showing the work of the committee in Maine will be a special feature. This meeting is one of a series to be held by similar oil men’s groups in each county of the State. Officers for the coming year will be elected at the meeting to which all gasoline and fuel oil dealers, garage operators, automobile dealers and others interested in highway transportation are invited.
50 Years Ago – October 31, 1973
Houlton Send 14 To Session Of Older Girls – The 20th annual older girls’ conference of the State YMCA was held October 26 through 28 in Presque Isle. Houlton had 14 delegates attending with Mrs. Merle Fenlason, advisor accompanying them. The theme “What’s Right About the United States” was used in panel discussions, group rap sessions with a film “Justice, Liberty and Law.” Mary Ann Millar of Houlton was the Chaplain and presided at the Sunday service. The guest speaker for the banquet Saturday was Mrs. Elmer Violette of Van Buren. Attending from Houlton High School were, Mary Ann Millar, Hollie McGillicuddy, Joni McNutt, Shelley Ellis, Sally Fitzpatrick, Mary McPartland, Karen Daniels, Kass Hogan, Sandy Reardon, Paula Coolong, Shari Daniels, Cindy Michaud, Robin Walton and Mary Barlock.
Boulier Takes Basic Training With Infantry – Army Private Ralph T. Boulier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph J. Boulier of Houlton, has completed eight weeks of basic training at the U.S. Army Training Center, Infantry, Ft. Dix, N.J. He received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, combat tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, and Army history and traditions.
25 Years Ago – November 18, 1998
Recent graduates – Army Pvt. Jennifer M. McCready has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo., during the training, the trainee received instructions in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, first aid, and Army history and traditions. McCready is the daughter of Brenda J. and John A. McCready of Houlton.
