Mining could be positive investment

To the editor:

This is a response to a recent letter to the editor written by Kathryn Olmstead [about Wolfden Mining’s proposed project near Patten]. The recent hearings were a request to rezone a piece of property that Wolfden owns.  They have complied with the rules and regulations, set forth by the Land Use Regulatory Commission, and should be granted the request.  There is no basis for the claim of irreparable mining [harm].

Wolfden Resources has two mining operations in the province of Manitoba, Canada.  Wolfden has a project in New Brunswick, Canada. While Wolfden may have other major owners, they are metallic mineral mining companies.

Nothing has been offered as a basis to prove any claim of toxic acid.  The Canadian mines do not have this problem.

These hearings could result in a major investment into Aroostook County by this mining operation and other major mining companies.  There are major benefits to other education institutions in this area.
