“This year’s league has really been a strong one, showing an even talent across all teams and making us believe that it really could be any team winning it all when it comes down to the end,” said league director Jacob Graham, who also is the director of the Mapleton Recreation Department. “Even though the scores have fallen in favor of certain teams more often, every team has shown that they have what it takes and can’t be undermined into thinking they’ll be an easy defeat. The closer we get to the playoffs, the more interesting I think it’s going to be.
“I really think we’re going to have a strong finish on our hands, and it could be anybody’s championship. We are lucky enough to have a team from Ashland join our league this year and they are sponsored by Perley’s Logging. They haven’t had a win yet, but the kids seem to be having fun, and they are being led by a great coach in the town’s recreation director, Lendell Tarr,” Graham added. “They have a lot of young players who are playing for the first time, so the more they keep practicing, the more they’re going to improve. I think they could really surprise everyone as the season goes on.”
The standings as of Friday, July 11 are as follows: Buck Farms (5-1), Doyen’s (4-3), Buck Construction (4-3), Perley’s (0-6).
“We are proud of all our teams so far this season, and are happy to see the great sportsmanship that is being shown by all of the kids. It is our hope to keep building this program, and it’s with great coaches and parent support that we continue to do so,” Graham said.
