FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Maine Potato Blossom Festival sporting events continue through the end of this week.
The Potato Blossom swim meet is slated to begin at 9 a.m. at the municipal pool on Wednesday, July 16. Recreation swim teams from Aroostook County will take part. The rain date is Friday, July 18.
Aroostook Valley Country Club’s three-person golf scramble begins at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19. The minimum team handicap is 30 and prizes will be given to the team’s with the top gross score. Call 476-8083 to register in advance.
The Potato Blossom 5-Miler Road Race will also be held July 19. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., the walker’s division gets under way at 8:30 a.m. and the runners take off at 9 a.m. The race begins on Main Street, across from Hillside IGA, and the registration fee is $15, with a T-shirt for the first 70 to sign up. The Regatta on the Aroostook for canoes and kayaks will be held at Forbes Gravel Pit, six miles north of Fort Fairfield on Rt. 161, beginning with a mass start at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19. Registration is from 3-4:45 p.m. and the fee is $15 per person, with T-shirts going to the first 65 to register. A ticket for a new canoe will be drawn following the event. The Spud Cycle Classic is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, July 20. beginning at the library on Main Street and ending at Hillcrest Estates. There is a 25-mile race and a 12-miler for those 15 and under or in the touring division. Registration is held from 8-9:30 a.m. at the community center. The registration fee is $15 for adults and the first 50 to register receive a T-shirt. Contact Towle for more information.
Those participating in the road race, regatta and bike race will have their times combined to determine female and male Maine Potato Blossom Festival Triathlon champions.
