Lions dare to bare — The Lions Club produced a fundraising calendar in 2013 to help support LifeFlight of Maine, Northern Maine Medical Center’s Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund and the UMFK Foundation. Twenty-four members of the Lions Club appeared “barely dressed” in the 24-month calendar, according to Lions member Paul Berube. The project began in May 2013 with photo shoots by retired photographer Jerry Jalbert of Fort Kent. A similar calendar was produced in 2006, raising $42,000 that was distributed to projects for seniors, youth, the cancer fund and a cardiology project, according to Berube. This year, the club hopes to surpass that amount by $28,000, he added.
