PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – A wind and rain storm on Monday left 2,157 Versant customers in Aroostook County without power on Tuesday morning. By 4 p.m., crews had reduced that number to 517.
According to a 4 a.m. update on the Versant website, crews are currently out assessing damage and making repairs. Versant urges motorists to use caution and not to remove any downed trees or limbs that may be near a power line.
According to the live outage map, 549 customers in the Woodland area are affected, along with 202 in Mars Hill. 177 customers near Mapleton and Chapman have lost power. 145 in Washburn are affected, along with 111 in Presque Isle. 68 customers on the outskirts of Caribou, near Limestone, have also lost power.
The storm cut power for nearly 420,000 throughout the state, and has resulted in two deaths. It also broke high temperature and precipitation records in Bangor, Caribou and Houlton.
As of Tuesday morning, it is unclear when power will be restored.
“Due to the extent of the damage, we expect a multi-day restoration,” a notice on the Versant website read. “Restoration time will be provided after damage is assessed.”
