Presque Isle police investigate thefts and burglary

    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Officers with the Presque Isle Police Department investigated several crimes that occurred between July 13-20 involving either theft, burglary or vandalism.
The first report was received on Sunday, July 13, at 7:57 p.m., when a caller reported her purse had been stolen out of her car sometime earlier in the evening while her vehicle was parked at the boat landing located across the river from the Aroostook Centre Mall. She told police she was unsure if the vehicle was locked. Officer Kaitlyn McLaughlin was assigned to investigate.
On Monday, July 14, police received a report of a residential burglary on the Easton Road. The call came in at about 3:59 p.m. with the individual claiming someone had broken into their residence by breaking out a sliding glass door. According to the caller, “the place was trashed.” Sgt. Mark Barnes and Officer Lucas Roy responded. According to the police log, access had been gained to a safe in the home, with several thousand dollars stolen. The scene was processed for evidence and interviews set up for later in the week. The investigation continues.
On Tuesday, July 15, Officer Lucas Hafford was assigned to investigated a case of vandalism at a Lombard Street residence. At approximately 10:16 a.m. a resident reported someone had “stuck a push pin in his tire and now it’s flat.” Damage was estimated at over $100.
Officer Brian McQuarrie was assigned to investigate a theft on Wednesday, July 16. An official for Northern Maine Railway called police around 1:04 p.m. reporting the building Irving owns off Chapman Road had been broken into. It was determined that sometime on or after July 3 an unknown subject kicked in the back door on a storage shed belonging to Irving and took 300 heavy-duty batteries. The batteries measured 15 inches tall and six-and-a-half-inches deep. The official told police the batteries, valued at $6,000, are used mostly in the switching signals at railroad crossings. Police processed the scene for evidence. Local junk dealers were contacted; the investigation continues.
Officer Kevin Reed was assigned to investigate the theft of a motor vehicle later on July 16. The report came in around 3:45 p.m., with the caller indicating he’d parked his vehicle behind the Mai Tai on Main Street Monday night (July 14), with the keys left inside. He told police he’d gotten a ride back to Fort Fairfield and when he went to get it Wednesday, it was gone. The vehicle was identified as a brown 1999 Olds Bravada.
And on Friday, July 18, a Lombard Street resident came into the station at approximately 7:12 a.m. to report someone had shot his truck window with a BB gun and the BB was still in the window. Sgt. Eric Erickson was assigned and confirmed the damage to the windshield and completed an incident report.
