FORT KENT, Maine – The weather on Thursday led to numerous minor crashes and accidents throughout the St. John Valley region.

In Fort Kent, a tractor trailer went off the road due to the slick conditions and became stuck, leading to the closure of Route 11. Fort Kent Police Chief Michael DeLena said the vehicle was stuck for roughly 40 minutes until the Maine Department of Transportation cleared the road and towed the vehicle out.

DeLena said the driver was transported to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure, but did not yet have details regarding the extent of the injury.

In Madawaska, a collision occurred at a Main Street intersection between two vehicles. A vehicle was struck on its side by another vehicle as it was crossing the intersection. Madawaska Police Chief Jamie Pelletier said it is unclear if the accident was caused by slippery roads or by an inattentive driver.

The Madawaska incident did not result in any severe injuries as no one involved was transported to the hospital. The vehicles, however, did sustain significant damage. Pelletier said the public works crew was called to clean up debris and shattered glass on the road.

Lt. Brian Harris, Commanding Officer with Maine State Police Troop F in Houlton, said a couple minor crashes occurred in Cross Lake on Thursday, and that minor crashes were also reported in Linneus and Ashland.
