A driver purposely drove into a Madawaska house in March, killing himself and a person in the home.
David Morin, 71, was killed when Shawn Cote, 44, drove his 2011 Ford Econoline van into Morin’s home on March 25 last year. Morin’s death was ruled a homicide, while Cote’s death was suicide, according to the 2023 homicide list Maine State Police released Friday.
The ruling follows an investigation by Maine State Police and the Madawaska Police Department, state police spokesperson Shannon Moss said Wednesday.
Morin and Cote knew each other, but Moss did not say how they knew each other. She said no additional information will be released.
The two men often ate breakfast together at Chez Helen, owner Helen Fortin said previously.
Morin ran his own electrical business, Morin Electric Inc., for 44 years and owned Acadian Builders, a contracting company. He also served on the Madawaska Select Board for two terms.
Cote worked at Acadian Builders, Fortin said previously.
Morin’s house was at the top of a steep hill, on a dead end street at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Bellevue Street. The crash caused damage to the first and second floors of the house.
