First patients arrive – First patients received at the Forest Hills Manor Nursing Home in Fort Kent were Mrs. Melvina Theriault of Fort Kent and Mrs. Elise Chasse of Upper Frenchville. The home officially opened Jan. 10, 1974. Others admitted to the new nursing home were: Alfred Voisine of Fort Kent, Mrs. Elise Hebert of Fort Kent and Mrs. Alex Fortin of Fort Kent.

Reaching a goal – Dr. Levesque Elementary School has collected almost 1,000 box tops from General Mills Box Tops for Education. Money received from cashing in these box tops with General Mills will be used to buy teacher resource materials and to bring performing artists to the school. Kindergarten students Mathew Lavoie and Ariel Copp encouraged everyone to help the Dr. Levesque School reach its goal in the Box Tops for Education Campaign.

Organizers plan for new entry to park — Organizers of the Four Corners Park in Madawaska are reaching out to the community to assist in fundraising efforts to construct a new $10,000 arch entryway, according to park founder Joe LaChance. Dionne Construction will dig for the base and make forms for the cement. The metal part of the sign will be fabricated by Aroostook Welding and the plastic for the letters will probably be bought from Mike’s Signs in Madawaska, LaChance said. The project will wait until after the 2014 World Acadian Congress to avoid being under construction while tourists visit.
