Young cooks prepare stew – Fourth graders at Champlain School in Van Buren, along with Mrs.Sharon Belanger and her teacher aide, Mrs. Claire Charette, made Mulligan Stew last week in 1974. “Mulligan Stew” is a TV series that helps young people learn more about how to eat better for good health. The program contains a comic book with stories and pictures on good nutrition. The fourth-graders have made ‘No-bake’ cookies and breakfast posters and keep a chart on everyday foods. The Mulligan Stew itself was their second cooking project.
25 Years Ago — Feb. 10, 1999
Times publisher names new general manager – St. John Valley Times Publisher Don Levesque has announced that Maurice Morin has been appointed as general manager of the newspaper and commercial printing shop. Morin, who began as general manager Feb. 1, 1999, will continue to serve as the print shop manager. Many of his duties in the print shop will be divided among the four employees in the print shop. Levesque said Morin’s nearly 25 years of experience in the publishing business assures the continued success of the enterprise.

Boynton nails 1,000 points — Senior Nate Boynton has become the first Wisdom Pioneer basketball player to reach the 1,000-point mark since Chad Gervais in 2001. He accomplished this feat with a floater over an East Grand double team Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. Boynton entered the game needing 18 points to reach the milestone. He scored just seven points in the first half, but netted 14 in the second half to pick up 21 points in the game.
