PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Wintergreen Arts Center is featuring three local young artists during March, Youth Art Month. The opening reception for their show will be held Friday, March 1 from 6 to 7:45 p.m.
The show is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Evan Botting is 16 years old and will be graduating from Houlton High School this June.
“I grew up in the Presque Isle area with my parents and sister,” said Evan. “I find my most go-to art medium is a digital platform, but have used many others such as oil pastels, watercolor, needle felting and so on. I don’t have a finite place of inspiration; it often comes to me randomly.
Claire Brissette is in the seventh grade and attends Caribou Community School.
“The mediums I work with the most are acrylic and watercolor,” said Claire. “My inspiration comes from my family and friends. My favorite animals are bugs and I love to share that fireflies use bioluminescence to glow and communicate.”
Izzy Goodwin is also in the seventh grade and attends Caribou Community School.
“My preferred mediums are acrylic, watercolor, alcohol markers and miscellaneous craft materials,” said Izzy. “My inspiration comes from my friends and Pinterest. I like horror and creepy paranormal stuff.”
Gretchen Violette, Wintergreen’s events coordinator, said, “Youth Art Month is an exciting time here at the center. These three young artists are incredibly talented. Our hope is that their courage to share their work inspires many other young people to explore their own creativity.”
The Wintergreen Arts Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2006 and located in Presque Isle. Wintergreen is an organization based on the idea that creativity, advocacy, and community can produce great things. Our mission is to provide meaningful experiences that encourage an appreciation of the arts, stimulate creativity and innovation, and offer an artistic community space where all are welcome.
