Four Dutch Farmers To Work On Aroostook County Farms – Four young farmers from the Netherlands will arrive in Aroostook County next week to study Maine potato growing while working on family-sized farms. These Dutchmen have been assigned to the farms of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Findlen, of Fort Fairfield; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis F. Getchell, of Limestone; Mr. and Mrs. George A. Haines, of Easton; and Mr. and Mrs. Perley T. Howard, of Washburn. Maine is training four of the 33 Dutch farmers coming to the United States.

Dr. Madigan Is Chamber’s Outstanding Citizen – The Board of Directors of the Houlton Chamber of Commerce, at their meeting Tuesday, announced that John B. Madigan, a prominent Houlton physician, has been elected as recipient of the Chamber’s Outstanding Citizen award for 1974. Dr. Madigan will be the honored guest at the annual recognition luncheon next Wednesday. It will mark the 10th straight year the Chamber has honored one of the Town’s outstanding citizens.
Graduated – Marine Pfc. Joseph L. Tompkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tompkins of HOulton has graduated from recruit training at Parris Island, S.C. He has recently returned to Parris Island for further training after a 10-day visit with his parents and grandparents.

Houlton’s Ward Log Homes sold – The oldest log home manufacturer in the country, Ward Log Homes, now has a new owner. The company’s assets have been sold to Northeastern Log Homes of Kenduskeag, Maine. While the company has a new owner, it’s business as usual for the Houlton firm, as the log home manufacturer will continue to operate as Ward Log Homes at its current Houlton Facilities. Michael Doody, controller at Ward Log homes, said everyone is very pleased with the sale agreement.
