CARIBOU, Maine — A local radio station will celebrate 30 years this year and on June 1 invites the public to join in the festivities.

WFST AM 600 Family Radio of Caribou will mark its 30th anniversary under Northern Broadcast Ministries, Inc. Though the station has been around since the 1950s, it began its new mission in April of 1994, and serves listeners in the Caribou and Presque Isle areas, as well as the rest of northern Maine and western New Brunswick.

They are celebrating 30 years with a BBQ on June 1 at 4 p.m. at the station on 670 Sweden St. in Caribou. The public is invited to stop by and help them celebrate. There will be cake, T-shirts, giveaways as well as a live broadcast during the event.

“We want to invite the public to stop by and see what we’re all about,” said Christa Waugh of Northern Broadcast Ministries/WFST.

The nonprofit station is funded entirely by donations.

Waugh added the station provides uplifting and encouraging programs on education, money management and family/relationship issues, as well as children’s programming, and plays music 24 hours a day. They also keep the community aware of events happening in this area.

WFST is located at 670 Sweden St. in Caribou and broadcasts on AM 600 or online at www.familyradiowfst.com or on their app.
