The Presque Isle Tech Center has announced Alek Bushey as the 2024 Student of the Year.
Bushey, a Presque Isle High School senior, embodies the essence of a diligent and community-oriented student, according to Tech Center Director Ralph Conroy. His journey at the center commenced at the SAD 1 School Farm, where he exhibited an insatiable appetite for learning and a willingness to embrace new challenges.
“Alek’s vibrant personality and unwavering positivity left a lasting impression on those around him. As he progressed through his academic career, Alek’s dedication to his studies and his peers remained steadfast,” Conroy said.
In the classroom and in the shop, he consistently exemplified his core values of hard work, reliability and kindness. Though initially reserved, Bushey’s observant nature allowed him to absorb knowledge and master tasks, such as operating the tire machine, which he eagerly shared with his classmates.
His involvement in Skills USA and FFA further highlighted his passion for hands-on learning and community engagement. He was a top choice to place in an extended learning opportunity this year with PNM Construction. His leadership as the Sentinel on the FFA officer team and his participation in competitions like the cabinet-making contest showcase his multifaceted talents and commitment to excellence, Conroy said.
Beyond academics, Bushey’s love for the outdoors and experiences in trapping demonstrate his connection to nature and his adventurous spirit.
“His genuine kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand have undoubtedly made him a cherished member of our school community,” Conroy said.
Bushey will make a positive impact in the wind power technology program at Northern Maine Community College next year.
