NMCC celebrates graduates of 2024 nursing class with pinning ceremony

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine  — Northern Maine Community College proudly hosted its Nursing Pinning Ceremony on Friday, May 10 at Presque Isle Middle School. The ceremony honored the achievements of 19 graduates from the nursing class of 2024.

Eileen McDougal, chair of the nursing and allied health department at NMCC, extended a warm welcome to attendees, setting the tone for the event. NMCC President Timothy Crowley and Academic Dean Angela Buck delivered opening remarks, emphasizing the significance of this milestone for the graduates and the nursing profession.

The ceremony featured Ann Gahagan, a retired nurse practitioner and diabetes educator, as the guest speaker. Gahagan shared insights and words of wisdom drawn from her extensive experience in the field, inspiring the graduates as they prepared to embark on their nursing careers.

Sarah Lynds, representing the graduating class, delivered a heartfelt address, reflecting on the journey they had undertaken together and expressing gratitude for the support they received along the way.

The Awarding of the Pins, under the direction of Michelle Soucy, the level II nursing coordinator at NMCC, was a poignant moment symbolizing the graduates’ transition from students to professionals. Each graduate was pinned by a loved one, marking the culmination of their academic and clinical training.

The graduating nursing class of 2024 includes Elizabeth Bitar, Braille Brigham, Abigail Buckingham, Brianna Caron, Emily Cummings, Alysha Decker, Paigley Deveau, Kaleb Hagerty, Savana Haggenmiller, Emma Lamoreau, Sarah Lynds, Abbi Martin, Brooklynne Moreau, Kassidy O’Leary, Erica Ouellette, Deanna Prothero, Sydney Robichaud, Abigail Scovil and Dynel Shannon. 

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the graduates joined together to recite the Florence Nightingale Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to uphold the principles of nursing and serve their communities with compassion and integrity.
