PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle High School Principal David Bartlett and Guidance Director Allison Reed announced the top five seniors of the graduating Class of 2024.
Hunter Darren Chandler is ranked 1st among Presque Isle High School’s senior class. The son of Darren and Terri Chandler of Mapleton, Hunter has taken the most demanding classes offered at PIHS, consistently earning high honor status every grading quarter. He has earned the coveted PIHS Honor Ring, the Presidential Academic Award, Academic Letter, Honor Bar, the MPA Principal’s Award and the Lamp of Learning Award. Hunter has participated in the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s concurrent enrollment program at PIHS, earning numerous college credits in multiple classes that he has taken. Hunter has also earned college credits through the University of Maine at Orono while participating in the engineering technology program at the Presque Isle Tech Center. Hunter has been actively involved in various school and community activities. Hunter has been a member of the math team, National Honor Society, Outdoor Club and the Gifted and Talented Program. Hunter has also given back to his community through his volunteer work, preparing and cooking meals for the Hope and Prosperity Center at ACAP, participating in the holiday light parade through the Chamber of Commerce, helping to renovate the Fort Fairfield VFW, and providing assistance at the College, Career, and Military Fair at PIHS. Hunter will be attending the University of Maine where he will be studying engineering.
Ranked 2ndin Presque Isle High School’s Class of 2024 is Abigail Storkson Hebert, the daughter of Earl Twiggs and Joyce Hebert of Presque Isle. Abigail has taken multiple honors and advanced placement courses, earning the AP/Honors Award. She has also participated in the concurrent enrollment program through the University of Maine at Presque Isle, earning college credits. Abigail has attained high honor roll status all four years of high school. She has earned multiple awards including the PIHS Honor Ring, the Presidential Academic Award, Academic Letter, Honor Bar, and the Lamp of Learning Award. Abigail has participated in various extracurricular activities including the Civil Rights Team, Contest Play, debate team, Shipmates’ Playhouse, speech and debate, youth and government, tennis, band, chorus, jazz band and jazz choir. She was also the treasurer of her class during her freshman and sophomore years. Abigail has also contributed to her community and has volunteered at the circus and at the Mark and Emily Turner Library, and fundraised for the Festival of Baskets. She also participates in St. Mary’s church choir. Abigail will be attending Bowdoin College in Brunswick this fall. She plans to pursue a career in medicine.
Reagen Bennett Deschene, daughter of Clint and Jennifer Deschene of Presque Isle, graduated 3rd among the Class of 2024. A high honor roll student, Reagen has excelled academically. She has earned the Presidential Award, Academic Letter, Lamp of Learning and the PIHS Honor Bar. She has also received the PVC Scholar-Athlete Award and has been named Aroostook League Scholar-Athlete. Reagen has participated in the concurrent enrollment program through UMPI and has earned college credits while in high school. Reagen has been an engaged member of her school community, participating in the National Honor Society, student council, Varsity Club, prom committee, varsity soccer, junior varsity soccer and basketball, track and field and Outdoor Club. She has been employed locally and has dedicated several hours of her time to volunteerism, including baking for various fundraisers, helping at the Spudland Open and the Junior Achievement Maine Golf Tournament, coaching soccer and providing assistance at Presque Isle High School’s Class Day and graduation ceremony. In the fall, Reagen will be attending the University of Maine, majoring in molecular and biomedical sciences.
Ranked 4thin the Presque Isle High School Class of 2024 is Gavin James Dunleavy, son of James and Julianne Dunleavy of Presque Isle. Dedicated to his academics, Gavin has completed several honors and advanced placement classes, earning college credits through the University of Maine at Presque Isle. In addition to being a high honor roll student, he has earned awards including All-Aroostook Golf, Academic Letter, Honor Bar and Lamp of Learning. Gavin has been actively involved at PIHS, participating in the Outdoor Club, tennis, ice hockey, golf and the National Honor Society. His volunteer work has included being a classroom helper and participating in a youth clinic. Gavin is also employed in the community. Gavin was a student in the engineering technology program at the Presque Isle Tech Center for two years, where he earned college credits through the University of Maine. Participation in this program greatly prepared him for his future plans, which include attending the University of Maine in the fall and majoring in engineering.
Wyatt Jeffrey Young, son of Scott and Marcie Young of Mapleton, has graduated 5th in the Class of 2024. Wyatt’s impressive achievements include earning high honors during his time at PIHS and receiving the Lamp of Learning Award, Honor Bar and Academic Letter. As a student, Wyatt earned college credits through the concurrent enrollment programs at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and Northern Maine Community College. Wyatt has taken multiple business classes through Presque Isle Tech Center’s business program. An active member of his school, Wyatt has been involved in various extracurricular activities including National Honor Society, student council, Varsity Club, Outdoor Club, junior varsity and varsity soccer, junior varsity and varsity basketball and golf, where he won the All-PVC Golf Award. In addition to working in the community, Wyatt has given back through his volunteering efforts including helping at Northern Light AR Gould’s vaccination clinic, counseling and refereeing at a girls’ basketball camp, helping at an event at the Presque Isle Rec Center, and doing yard work at St. John’s Episcopal Church. This fall, Wyatt will be attending the University of Maine to study business.
