Owl women split

BANGOR —  The Maine-Presque Isle women’s soccer team split their games at the Husson University Classic this weekend.
Rivier University beat the Owls 5-1 in the Saturday opener. Sam Nadeau, a freshman from Madawaska, had her first career goal in the loss. Allison Lopez made 10 saves for UMPI.
On Sunday, UMPI rebounded with a 4-1 victory over Wheelock College. Despite peppering the goal with shots, the Owls were unable to get on the scoreboard until the 33rd minute when Nadeau ran onto the ball off a free kick by Mikaelah Tracy.
Wheelock tied the game on an Alison DeGloria goal two minutes into the second half, but UMPI then scored three unanswered goals — two by Nadeau and the other by Janae Libby, a freshman from Fort Fairfield. Libby also assisted on two of Nadeau’s goals.
UMPI next plays Maine Maritime Academy Friday at 5 p.m. as part of the Thomas College Classic in Waterville.
