WASHBURN, Maine — Debate continues over the possible renaming of the community center, with a meeting scheduled for next Monday.
“We’d like to have suggestions submitted to the Washburn Town Office by Friday, Sept. 5, with the meeting set for Sept. 8,” said Town Manager Bev Turner.
Turner said this is a follow-up to a meeting held a few weeks ago.
“It was proposed we change from the Washburn Community Center to the Mill Pond Community Center, in recognition of the former mill and pond that once were in town. There’ve been a lot of people who indicated they want to leave it as the Washburn Community Center,” said Turner.
Monday’s meeting will give the public the opportunity to share their views on whether they want to rename the facility or leave it as it is.
In other municipal news, the Washburn School Board currently has one vacancy.
“Anyone interested in that position should submit a letter of interest here at the Town Office by Sept. 4,” said Turner.
