Local woman earns scholarship

Grace Tarr of Mapleton recently received a national dental assisting scholarship.

Tarr was one of eight to receive a scholarship from the Dental Assisting National Board and the DALE Foundation, chosen from among 500 applicants from around the country.

Tarr will use the scholarship to take the national board’s General Chairside Assisting Exam and Infection Control Exam.

“I am now working in my second year as a pediatric dental assistant, and I am loving it. I work with the only pediatric dentist in a rural northern Maine town of about 1,200 people,” Tarr said in the national board’s scholarship announcement. “We also provide care for eight-plus small-town communities in our county who don’t have access to dental care.”

The foundation scholarship was established this year and helps those studying for or new to the dental assistance field.
