VAN BUREN, Maine – A building at 108 Bridge Street in Van Buren was completely destroyed after a fire on Tuesday, July 30. The fire spread and destroyed a neighbors’ garage on 112 Bridge Street.

Van Buren Fire Chief Brian Caron said that there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

The fire was first reported at 1:40 a.m. as multiple structures on fire behind a building on 88 Main Street, according to a social media post from the Van Buren Fire Department.

According to the post, fire departments from Grand Isle, St. Leonard, and Grand Falls aided in putting out the fire. Together, they were able to save a vacant building known as the “Yacht Club,” and an adjacent house.

Other agencies, including Van Buren’s ambulance, light and power, water, and public works departments were also thanked in the post for helping with the fire.

Caron said on Aug. 5 that a cause has not yet been determined, and the incident is currently under investigation.

“The firefighters on scene fought long and hard to save the building next door that was four feet away and three stories tall,” Caron said. “Everyone did an amazing job.”
