50 Years Ago — September 11, 1974
Who’s who honors Nadeau – Kenneth Nadeau, a senior at Wisdom High School recently was notified that he was to be featured in the eighth annual edition of Who’s Who Among American High school Students, 1973-74 the largest student award publication in the nation. Students from over 20,000 public, private and parochial high schools throughout the country are recognized for their leadership in academics, athletics, activities or community service in the books. Less than 3 percent of the junior and senior class students nationwide are awarded this recognition. Kenneth is active as National Honor Society vice president and has served in Student Council, Scout activities, and National Rifle Association.
25 Years Ago — September 15, 1999
Sister Bouchard celebrates years of service – Frenchville native Sister Thelma Bouchard recently celebrated 50 years of religious life with the Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Sanford. Bouchard taught for many years in Frenchville, Millinocket, Sanford, New York, Rhode Island and continues to teach in Florida in addition to having worked in Portland. At a recent celebration marking the 50th anniversary, Bouchard was described as, “A teacher who teaches by her gentle presence, by her listening heart, by an encouraging often challenging word and by her advocacy and love for the poor.”

Former health center demolished — C.L. Roy & Sons, based in St. Agatha began tearing down the former Madawaska Regional Health Center on the corner of Mill and Main streets this week in 2014. The United States Government owns the property. Attempts to confirm plans for the property were not successful.
