Chaplain said goodbye – A farewell luncheon was given in honor of Fr. Yves Gendreau at the Forest Hill Manor Nursing Home in Fort Kent last week in 1974. Fr. Gendreau was the chaplain at the nursing home. In attendance were Gerry Cyr, Sr. Lucie Bouchard, along with many friends and residents of the nursing home.

Paradis family sells three stores — Paradis Shop ‘n Save is selling its supermarkets in Houlton, Caribou and Calais to Hannaford Supermarkets, according to a statement issued by Hannaford on Sept. 16, 2014. Transitions to Hannaford ownership and management at the three stores will take place later this fall, following the sale. Craig Paradis, treasurer of Paradis Shop ‘n Save, described the timing as “right.” The Paradis family will continue to own and operate the Shop ‘n Save supermarkets in Fort Kent, Madawaska and Brewer. The Paradis family business began in 1948 when Louis Paradis and some of his sons created the first Paradis Supermarket in Fort Kent. The Paradis stores are wholesale customers of Hannaford and sell Hannaford-brand products, according to a press release.
