The Presque Isle girls were tested by John Bapst at home Saturday, but still came away with a 3-2 victory to move to 6-0 heading into this afternoon’s match at Ellsworth.
The Wildcats trailed 2-1 at intermission, but goals by Olivia Hudson and Taylor Williams in the second half were unanswered. Williams’ goal came with just four minutes to play.
Jordi Legassie scored to give PI an early lead, only to have Bapst net a pair of goals to move out in front.
Jillian Flynn saved eight of 10 shots in goal for Presque Isle.
The ’Cats stopped Fort Kent at home last Wednesday, 2-1, thanks to a pair of goals by Legassie.
Presque Isle follows up its game at Ellsworth with another road contest Saturday at Old Town.
The beginning of harvest recess for many area schools means an abbreviated soccer schedule in the region until mid-October, but last week still was fairly busy and summaries of other games played through Monday are as follows:
Presque Isle boys 5, John Bapst 0 — Ben Nickerson’s hat trick lifted the Wildcats to the shutout win at home Saturday.
Alex Michaud had a goal and two assists, Randon Mortland notched a goal and Nick Bartlett an assist for PI, which raised its record to 5-1.
Ashland girls 8, Washburn 2 — Savannah Flint’s hat trick Thursday powered the visiting Hornets to their second win over the Beavers this season.
Mackenzie Carter scored twice, while Caitlin Paradis, Marissa Chasse and Cassidy Pelletier added singles goals for Ashland, which took a 7-0 record into Tuesday’s home match against Van Buren. Paradis had two assists and Megan Cote turned away seven shots on 15 attempts by the Beavers.
Mackenzie Worcester scored both Washburn goals, with Joan Overman assisting on one of them. Grace Braley faced 25 shots and stopped 16. The Beavers have now lost four of their last five and are 7-4 overall.
Ashland boys 2, Washburn 1 — Noah Farley recorded the Beavers’ lone goal in Thursday’s home loss to the Hornets.
Michael Cook and Cody Blair had the goals for Ashland. The two teams had played to a 1-1 tie in Ashland Sept. 8.
Washburn is now 7-3-1, with the next game scheduled Oct. 14 after harvest recess is completed. Ashland was 4-1-2 heading into a home match against Van Buren Tuesday.
Central Aroostook boys 4, Katahdin 0 — Caleb Harris, Dustin Pryor, Luke Kearney and Colby Kingsbury all had goals as the Panthers blanked Katahdin last Wednesday in Stacyville. Nick Dominique picked up an assist in the win as CA evened its mark at 4-4.
Central Aroostook girls 4, Katahdin 0 — The Panther girls won by the exact same score that afternoon behind Karli Levesque’s hat trick. She also assisted on the team’s other goal, which was scored by Jadeyn Giberson. April Santiago had her third shutout of the season as she saved nine shots for CA, now 4-4.
Presque Isle boys 7, Fort Kent 5 — In a wild match at Presque Isle last Wednesday, the host Wildcats scored six unanswered goals to come back from a 3-1 halftime deficit and beat Fort Kent.
Nickerson had four goals and Chase Norton led the way with three assists. Jake Carter, Bartlett and Ryle Mortland also had goals for PI, with Mortland’s assisted by Michaud. The Wildcats played at Ellsworth Tuesday and are at Old Town Saturday.
