WASHBURN NEWS
AAI students volunteer
On Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a large group of students from the Aroostook Aspirations Initiative (http://gauvinfund.org) scattered throughout the town of Washburn volunteering their time.
The students who are in grades six through 12 will be working with the Recreation Department, the Snowmobile Club, the ATV Club and other non-profits.
The students working with the Washburn ATV Club will be clipping bushes, raking wood chips back into the trail, and working around the club house. Please be extra cautious when riding the trails through town during that time. The ATV Club is looking to borrow clippers, rakes, work gloves, and safety or hunting vests to be used for any child that doesn’t have any. Anyone is welcome to volunteer their time to help supervise the students, it would be very welcomed. If you do want to volunteer or have supplies you would be willing to share, please contact Roger Hewitt or the Washburn ATV Club on Facebook.
The ATV Club will also be supplying lunch for all children and volunteers; the location for lunch is undetermined at this time but will either be at the ATV Clubhouse or the Rec Center. They will be serving hotdogs, chips, cupcakes, and hot and cold beverages.
Washburn ATV Club ride
On Sunday, Oct. 19, the Washburn ATV Club will be having one of their last club rides of the season. They will be heading to the Blue Moose Restaurant, leaving at 9 a.m.
Student Council food drive
The Washburn High School Student Council will be having a school dance on Friday, Oct. 17. They wanted to also use this event to give the students a way to help their community. They asked KC & Company DJ Services of Washburn to help with the dance, who in turn suggested a food drive.
KC & Company will be volunteering their services for the dance, asking only that the students attempt to come up with 300 non-perishable food items to be used by members of the Washburn community in need during the upcoming winter months. If you have or know a high school student at Washburn and wish to help, you can drop off food items at the high school or Town Office; just inform them that it is for the Washburn Student Council.
Bean supper
The Rotary Club of Washburn, in conjunction with the Salmon Brook Historical Society, will be hosting a bean supper at the Trail Runners Club House on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This fundraiser is to help the Historical Society replace their aging furnace and update wiring. The cost for meals for those 12 and over is a minimum donation of $5; a donation is asked for those under 12.
