Numbers don’t add up

To the editor:
At the height of the recession in 2009, the number of people on food stamps went from 17 million in 2000 to 47 million in 2009.

Since 2009, we have added 10 million jobs to the economy and reduced the unemployment rate to under 6 percent. According to the Department of Agriculture, as of Sept. 3, 2014, there are still 46.6 million people on food stamps. The recovery has not changed the number of people on food stamps by even 1 percent.
