MMG INSURANCE recently donated $24,588 to the United Way of Aroostook. The money was raised through the 21st annual MMG Charity Golf Tournament through registration fees and donations from businesses and individuals. Attending the Sept. 30 check presentation were, from left, front row: MMG employees Laura Martin and Deanna Harris, Claudia Stevens, executive director of the United Way of Aroostook; and Larry Shaw, president/CEO of MMG Insurance. The money was raised through the annual MMG Charity Golf Tournament through registration fees and donations from businesses and individuals. The United Way will distribute these funds to local agencies, directly benefiting the people of Aroostook County.
“This was our 21st year hosting the golf tournament, and since its inception, we’ve always donated the money to the United Way of Aroostook,” said Larry Shaw, president/CEO of MMG Insurance. “We wanted to get involved with a group that spread money throughout The County and gave back on a broad basis, and we felt the United Way was a great organization to get involved with.”
Shaw said the tournament, which was held Sept. 6 at the Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield, raised $24,588 to the local United Way.
“MMG is proud to contribute to the important mission of the United Way of Aroostook. Throughout the year, the United Way provides invaluable support to our neighbors in need,” said Shaw, noting that 123 players took part in the event. “The success of this tournament would not be possible without the contributions made by MMG business partners outside of our area. We are very thankful for their involvement and appreciate the donations brought forth as a result of our extended business relationships.”
Claudia Stevens, executive director of the United Way of Aroostook, said she was thrilled with the donation.
“The MMG Charity Golf Tournament marks the beginning of our fund-raising campaign and is the first major income source,” she said, noting that the campaign goal is $490,000. “As usual, it’s been another huge success and sets the tone for what we know will be another successful year of fundraising.
“We could never thank MMG enough for all they do,” said Stevens. “The United Way would not be where it is today without MMG’s support.”
To date, the Charity Golf Tournament has raised more than $413,000 for the United Way of Aroostook.
