SHAW, Reginald D., 77, BRIDGEWATER, October 10, 2014. There will be no funeral service or calling hours per his request. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

BRIDGEWATER – Reginald D. Shaw passed away at his home on October 10, 2014, in the loving arms of his son. Reggie was the third child of Nadine Hartley Shaw and Harold Shaw and was born in Centreville, NB, Canada on September 15, 1937.
Reggie married Nan Holmes in 1954 and their first and only daughter, Dixie Lee Shaw was born followed by first son and business partner, Reginald Shaw who was followed by their youngest son, Randy Harold Shaw.
Reggie moved to Maine in 1954 and lived in Bridgewater the rest of his days, excluding a short stint in Mississauga, Ontario. He loved his family, friends, a multitude of dogs and cats, his home and businesses. He cherished his Nanny.
Reggie is survived by his wife, Nan Holmes Shaw; three children, Dixie Shaw of Presque Isle, Reginald Shaw and his wife, Molly Mahan Shaw, of Bridgewater, Randy Shaw of Presque Isle; five grandchildren, Loren Cain, James Cain, Benjamen Reginald Cain, Felicia Shaw-Dyer, and Sam Shaw. He had seven great-grandchildren, Jadeyn Cain, Connor Cain, Emma Dyer, Jake Dyer, and Landon Shaw. Reggie also had several step-grandchildren, Jaime Madore, Amy Gillen, Natasha Brewer, and Pippin Smith of Mars Hill; and many nieces and nephews. Reggie is also survived by his sister whom he often said, protected him many times when he was young from an early grave, Marlene Shaw Oakes of Bath, NB; and his brother, Michael Shaw of Mississauga, Ontario, whom Reggie grew to love but never forgave for taking the status from him in the family.
Reggie was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Nadine Shaw; his older brother and friend, Ivan Shaw of Mississauga, Ontario; a sister-in-law, Azelia Holmes Shaw; his brother-in-law and friend, Lionel Oaks of Bath, NB; his son-in-law, Lee Cain of Presque Isle; and his mother-in-law, Hilda Farley Holmes MacDonald of Bridgewater. He was also predeceased by many dear friends over the years.
Reggie was supported by many friends and neighbors over the past few years and for that, the family is very grateful and wishes to acknowledge and thank each and everyone who checked on, cared for and visited him often.
Reggie worked all his life in a variety of jobs but his passion was to own and operate his own businesses with his wife, Nan and son. He opened the first and only car wash in Bridgewater, he operated Shaw Market and the Corner Store and was in the process of bringing another idea to the Bridgewater Corner. He and his son and wife, Nan, operated a fuel oil business, lime spreading operation, junk business, and owned and operated several trucks over the years. Reggie dreamed BIG and continued to do so until he left this earth.
Reggie did not have a lot of formal education and used to say, “not bad for a fifth grade education,” but he had a zest for learning and enjoyed reading and watching history. He also had a wit unmatched by most and with the proper background could have been a great philosopher and probably will be quoted for years to come. He will best be remembered for his spontaneous quotes and ditties, his never ending humor, and his love of his family, friends and pets. Reggie did not appreciate vacation time and got his enjoyment from the work that he did. Reggie worked hard and dreamed big, right up to the end.
There will be no funeral service or calling hours per Reggie’s request. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 19, at 2 p.m., at the Bridgewater Boundary Line Cemetery for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to his cherished wife, Nan Shaw at Box 304, Bridgewater, ME 04735.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 3 p.m., at the Bridgewater Civic Center, any and all are welcome to attend. Online condolences may beexpressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
