PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Aroostook Youth Basketball League will hold its first practice session next week for boys and girls in grades 3 and 4 interested in playing on the travel teams.
The first boys’ sign-up/practice will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1 at Mapleton Elementary School. The first girls’ session will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, also at Mapleton Elementary School.
Depending on the number of players who come out, there could be one or two teams for each gender. After the teams are finalized and have had several practices, they will play against teams from other communities.
The season is approximately 10 weeks long, with one and sometimes two 1-1/2 hour practices held per week, in addition to around 10 games being played. The season will end in March. Games are usually on weekends, but there are occasional weeknight games.
There will be paperwork for parents to fill out and a fee is due the night of the first practice, which covers registration and uniforms, if needed.
Players should wear non-marking sneakers with appropriate footwear and a water bottle and are advised to show up on time, but no more than 10 minutes earlier than the start of practice. For more information, visit ayblmaine.org.
