Pee wee basketball

    Pee wee basketball for boys and girls in grades 1-3 is underway and takes place at the Fort Fairfield Community Center on Saturdays and Tuesday evenings and will continue through the beginning of February.
There is no fee to participate and children can still be registered by contacting the parks and recreation department at 472-3882.
The programs rely on volunteer coaches so if any adults are interested in assisting with coaching one of the teams this season, mention your intent when you contact the parks and recreation department.

Youth basketball

    Youth basketball is for boys and girls in grades 4-6 and is offered at the Fort Fairfield Community Center. The program is held on Saturdays and Wednesday evenings and will continue through the beginning of February. There is no fee to participate and registrations are still being accepted by calling 472-3882.
Adults who want to volunteer to assist with coaching one of the teams in the league should call the recreation department and a team will be assigned to those interested.

Youth travel basketball

    Boys and girls in grades 4-6 who are participating in the Fort Fairfield youth basketball program will have an opportunity to play on the boys or girls travel basketball teams that represent the department. Teams will play approximately 14 games with other recreation teams from throughout Aroostook County during the 2014-15 season. There is no charge to participate on the travel teams.
All players enrolled in the youth basketball program will receive more information regarding the recreation travel teams and when the first practices will be held.
The travel teams are scheduled to start playing games in January and will continue play through the beginning of March. The season ends with the Girls County Tournament in Fort Fairfield and the Boys County Tournament in Caribou.

Adult basketball league

    The recreation department is currently accepting team registrations for an adult basketball league that will begin on Monday, Dec. 1. League games will be played Monday and Thursday evenings and each team that registers will play a minimum of 12 games during the season. The cost is $120 per team. Adult volleyball

    Adult co-ed volleyball is held every Sunday evening at the Fort Fairfield Community Center from 6-8 p.m. The program is for individuals high school age and older, with play being informal and teams being selected each night from all those in attendance. There is no charge to play. For more information, call 472-3882.

Indoor walking, running and exercise

    The Fort Fairfield Community Center gymnasium and exercise area are open to the public for walking, running, and exercise Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-noon, except on holidays. The hours are subject to change occasionally and will be posted accordingly. There is no charge to participate.

Cross country ski rentals

    The recreation department is renting out cross-country ski packages again this winter to boys and girls in grades 8 and under.  The cost to rent a complete package for the entire ski season is $25 for the first family member and $20 for each additional child.
Rentals are not available until the middle of December. At that point, those interested can call 472-3882 to make an appointment to pick up the ski package.

Youth cross country ski program

    The recreation and parks department, in conjunction with 21st Century, will conduct an after-school cross country ski program this winter. The activity will begin the middle of January and continue through the first of April. Details of the program are being finalized and more information will be forthcoming soon.

NHSC Saturday Morning Ski Club

    The Nordic Heritage Sport Club is conducting a Saturday morning cross country ski program again this winter, which will begin in mid-January and continue through the end of March.

Open gymnasium

    The Fort Fairfield Community Center gymnasium and game room are open to the public for free play on Sunday afternoons from noon-4 p.m. and Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. except when there is a home varsity basketball game being played.
The game room is open for students Monday through Friday after school from 3-5 p.m.
During school vacations, holidays, and early school release days, the facility will be open to the public for free play from noon-4 p.m., with the exception of Saturdays during recreation basketball season.

Uniform return

    Several uniforms have not been returned by participants from programs held recently. Those still with uniforms that belong to the recreation department should return them to either the community center or the town office.
