PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Nominations are currently being sought for 2014 Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented during the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting and dinner on Thursday, Jan. 22.
“These awards are sponsored by the CACC, Presque Isle Rotary and Kiwanis clubs,” said Lyn Frederick, executive assistant at the CACC. “The Business of the Year has already been selected. That decision was made earlier this year.”
The deadline to return nomination papers is Sunday, Nov. 30.
According to the nomination forms, the Citizen of the Year recipient “is an outstanding individual recognized for their impact on the lives of the citizens of central Aroostook County. This special individual shows dedication and spirit beyond what is considered regular duty.”
The Lifetime Achievement recipient is described as “an outstanding individual recognized for their impact on the lives of the citizens of central Aroostook County. This special individual is someone who has had notable contributions and successes in the community.”
Nominees don’t have to be from Presque Isle. They can hail from any of the 13 communities served by the CACC, including: Ashland, Blaine, Castle Hill, Chapman, Easton, Mapleton, Mars Hill, Masardis, Portage Lake, Presque Isle, Oxbow, Washburn and Westfield.
“We don’t just serve Presque Isle. We’re here to serve all 13 communities,” said Frederick. “It’s about promoting the region, not a single community.”
Past winners of the Lifetime Achievement honor include: a tie in 2013 — Oscar “Voscar” Nelder, and Jan and Evelyn Kok; and Virginia “Jinny” Joles in 2014. Citizen of the Year past honors went to: Floyd Rockholt in 2013; and Dr. Norma and Paul Desjardins in 2014.
Nomination forms can be obtained at the CACC, 3 Houlton Road in Presque Isle, or on the Chamber’s website: www.centralaroostookchamber.com.
