The Presque Isle House Hotel
topic of Dec. 3 presentation
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Historical Society invites local historians, enthusiasts and the general public to an exciting opportunity to learn about the history of the Presque Isle region as they offer their fourth quarterly presentation of 2014 on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
For the past few years, the historical society has offered quarterly presentations on various topics of historical interest, sometimes with guest speakers or with historical artifacts and documentation. Kimberly R. Smith, secretary and treasurer of the historical society, will present this quarter’s topic, The Presque Isle House Hotel, in the McCain A Conference Room at TAMC. Everyone is welcome to attend the free event. There is no need to register.
The Presque Isle House Hotel was the predecessor to the Northeastland, in that it was at that same location. In fact, the Presque Isle House Hotel sat on the location of the first inn in Presque Isle and the third building in the village. The short presentation will also include hands-on artifacts from the hotel, as well as photos of the building and its demise by fire.
Smith hopes attendees will walk away from the presentation with a better understanding of not only this particular site, but what our early community looked like. She wants people to know that they do not have to travel far away to see and experience interesting history.
“Studies show that individuals engaged in local history have a greater sense of community pride,” said Smith. “We can all learn from history, even if it is nothing more than to see our own community and everyday sights through new eyes.”
