Each year, Atlantic Partners EMS honors affiliates for their contributions to the profession, their community and their peers. Awards are presented to EMS agencies that have a strong community connection, an integrated program for community injury prevention/education, and a desire to improve the EMS system as a whole.
“As a hospital-based service it is obvious the strong relationship Crown Emergency Care has with TAMC; however, we are also very impressed with Crown’s EMS Injury Prevention Program,” said Kelly Roderick, chair of the EMS Seminar Award Committee. “Crown Emergency Care has established strong, collaborative relationships with many other public safety agencies, including the Presque Isle Fire Department, Fort Fairfield Fire Department, and many others. The willingness of team members to always support and participate in local, regional and state level EMS is what makes Crown a leader in EMS.”
Also noted in the citation for the award was the involvement of Crown Emergency Care personnel in the annual Survivor Aroostook Healthcare Career Exploration Camp. Crown team members coordinate an annual mock disaster drill for students participating in the camp that always serves as a highlight for the enrolled 13- and 14-year-olds from throughout the county.
Crown Emergency Care personnel are very involved in the local community. In addition to being a standby presence at a number of local sporting and other events, crew members have led several benefit initiatives, including delivering holiday meals to the elderly and disabled and collecting toys for area children in need.
“All of us at Crown Emergency Care are not only committed to our profession and ensuring that we provide the highest possible quality pre-hospital care to those we serve, but we strive each and every day to support the local communities in central Aroostook,” said Walter Mosher, Crown supervisor. “It is a true honor to be part of an award-winning team devoted to high quality patient care. Regional recognition speaks highly to the dedication to community, as well as to the organization of Crown Emergency Care.”
Crown, the largest EMS in the region, has bases of operation in Fort Fairfield, Limestone (Loring), Mars Hill and Presque Isle, and provides emergency medical services in 19 Aroostook County cities, towns and unorganized territories.
Crown Emergency Care’s efforts have enabled cities and towns in its service area to be designated as Maine Heartsafe Communities at the platinum level. In order to achieve this status, organizations must offer CPR training in the community, provide access to Automated External Defibrillators, maintain American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications for staff, and meet other criteria.
Crown was previously named EMS Service of the Year in 2008.
