EASTON NEWS

The EPCO will hold a Christmas Bazaar on Wednesday, Dec. 17, for Easton Elementary students to purchase gift items for family members at the bargain price of $1 each. They are asking for donations of items that are new or gently used that would be appropriate for children, parents and grandparents.
They are still in need of gift bags (any occasion) and tissue paper for wrapping. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the PTO at pto@eastonschools.org, on their Facebook page or call the elementary school at 488-7701.
Kevin Marquis was a guest speaker at Easton Elementary School, sharing information about the town’s history as the community prepares for the Sesquicentennial celebration. He encourages students in grades 5 and 6 to research their own family history and connections to the early settlers of Easton.
He shared information about the 11 schools that once served the town, and their locations. Students looked at an old town map from the 1800s showing the early farm lots and beginning of the road systems. The children loved hearing all the stories and connecting them to their own family history as well as the town’s.
Mrs. White invites all local historians to share your information with the students as they continue on this adventure. Please contact the elementary school if you would be interested in being a classroom guest!
The Presque Isle Historical Society hosted grades 4-6 students from Easton Elementary School recently for a combination tour of the historic downtown Presque Isle area and the Presque Isle Air Force Base. The children spent four hours learning about the beginnings of the town and compared Presque Isle’s history to Eason’s history throughout the trip.
They were so enthusiastic about all of Mrs. Kim Smith’s stories and loved playing the historically correct recess games with Mrs. Elaine Hendrickson. The Estey House Museum was definitely the perfect setting for their “step back in time.” The students shared their new-found information with the rest of the elementary students and staff at their next Morning Meeting.
Students and staff alike were very impressed with the wealth of information that was shared. Parents reported that the students also took their own personal family tour around Presque Isle and shared the information with great enthusiasm.
Thank you, Kim Smith and Elaine Hendrickson, for sharing all the wonderful history!

The United Baptist Church of Easton will present “It’s Christmas in the Country.” There will be two performances, one at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary and at 2 p.m. for the residents of Mars Hill nursing home. Please plan to come out and support these youth!
