Volunteers sought
for Presque Isle Historical Society committee

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — With the continuing effort to organize and grow, the Presque Isle Historical Society is implementing an Events and Projects Committee and would like to reach out to the community with an invitation and opportunity to volunteer and be a part of this committee.

Volunteers would be able to participate in existing events and would plan and coordinate efforts around new fund-raising events to further progress and to ensure the completion of the Maysville Museum project.
Ongoing projects include:
The 1875 Vera Estey House Museum – restoring the gardens to provide an idyllic spot for tranquil weddings and receptions; add a barn to replace the one originally with the house to provide for office, meeting and storage space.
The Maysville Museum – renovating the building and opening a small museum. Work is moving along and it is expected that the facility will open sometime in 2015. Additional funds for the remaining renovations must be raised.
The Historic Fire Station – plans are to turn the building into a large museum/cultural center to include a research library, small theatre, gift shop, storage and office space. Estimates for the renovations are $2 million.
Some of the future plans include implementing a Summer History Camp, a week-long adventure in local history, for children ages 8-12; hiring and supporting full-time staff; continuing to develop new and compelling exhibits; and attracting and training additional tour guides.
Those who would like to be a part of this growing phase should email pihistoricalsociety@hotmail.com or call 762-1151.
