Museum grant
The Aroostook County Committee recently awarded a $2,000 grant to the Salmon Brook Historical Society. The funds were awarded from the committee’s Aroostook Fund from the Community Building Grant Program, which is an unrestricted fund dedicated to the County and is awarded to innovative projects.
Thanks to the grant-writing abilities of Society member Dave Rand, the grant money was awarded to the Society and will be used in the expansion of the barn. The newly added 14- by 38-foot space will be at the end of the barn nearest Jardine Street and has been designated to better house the collection of sleighs and carriages donated by Robert Solman. This addition will also hold with the current design of the barn, making the barn extension appear seamless. The museum directors are waiting for the bids on construction to come in and will likely be looking for donations to cover the costs above the $2,000 grant money.

Falicia also read a letter congratulating the Washburn UMW for their achievement of making the Five Star Award for 2006, which is a national recognition for all they do.

Also included in the local agenda was the election of officers for the 2007-08 year. The president will be Charlene Maynard and vice president is Jackie Riberdy. Lois McDivitt will hold the position of secretary while Falicia Rossignol will remain treasurer.
New business discussed was the coming annual church bazaar, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
