MES students form running club
MAPLETON, Maine — Members of the Little Wildcats Running Club at Mapleton Elementary School recently participated in a one-mile race, the Mapleton Mile, which took place at the school to culminate the program.
Top three boy finishers were Cade Ennis in first place in 9:08, Drake Boucher in second in 9:09 and Mason Oakes in third in 10:29. The top three girl finishers were Juliette Gomez-Lawson in first in 9:10, Bella Quirino in second in 9:32 and Emily Straetz in third in 10:01. All 27 youth who started the race finished.
During the course of the program, students ran once a week during recess from the first of October through the first week of December. They were challenged to complete five out of six runs in order to be eligible to purchase a T-shirt.
The program was under the direction of fourth-grade teacher Kim Wright.
