      MICHAUD, Lawrence Albert, 89, ASHLAND & BREWER, January 19, 2015. A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 11 a.m., at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Ashland, and interment with military honors at Ashland Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, Bangor. 

    ASHLAND & BREWER – Lawrence Albert Michaud, 89, passed away peacefully, January 19, 2015. Lawrence was born in Portage, April 27, 1925, the sixth child of Ernest B. and Laura (Paradis) Michaud.  SH-LawrenceMichaudOB2
American-Flag-Color    Lawrence attended Portage and Ashland schools. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, where he proudly served his country in Africa, Italy, France, Germany and in the Belgian “Battle of the Bulge”.
    Lawrence married Maurine Sutherland of Ashland in 1947. In 1952, Lawrence and his brother, Norman, purchased their father’s business, “Michaud’s IGA” which became Michaud Brothers IGA for 24 years. 
    Lawrence was active in municipal government for many years, serving on the town council and for several terms as chairman. He also served on the Board of Directors for SAD #32, and Ashland Water and Sewer District. He was a past member of Rotary International, past director of Ashland Chamber of Commerce, past vice president of the former Ashland Starch Co., and past chairman of the Democratic Town Committee. He was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9699, and past Commander of District 1 VFW. He was also president of the Ashland Housing Corp. for many years until retiring in 2010 after building 24 units for the elderly, his pet project. In 1959, he was listed in “Leading Young Men in the United States of America” – a biographical list of influential men in the country.
    Lawrence was predeceased by his son, Mark and by seven siblings, Beulah, Julietta, Edmund, Norman, Oneil, Hector and Eugene.
    In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by daughters, Kathy Bonney and her husband, Dugan, of Lyons, OR, and Mary White and her husband, Shawn, of Stetson; six grandchildren, Cassie McCoy and husband, Patrick, of Kittery, Jasmine Greenman and husband, Jeremy, of Readfield, Michael Michaud and wife, Courtney, of Milton, FL, Alan Michaud and wife, Sara, of Ramona, CA, Gavin Bonney of California, and Lauren Bonney of Lyons, OR; five great-grandchildren, Ella Maurine McCoy, Andrew and Reid Greenman, Cheyenne Michaud, and Mark Michaud; one brother, Clarence “Babe” Michaud and his wife, Margaret, of Presque Isle; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
    A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 11 a.m., at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 13 Allen Farm Rd., Ashland, and interment with military honors at Ashland Municipal Cemetery.
