PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Cold weather hampered the repair of a broken water main on the Houlton Road on Sunday, Feb. 8.
“It was a difficult break; it was very cold for crews working to repair the problem,” said Stephen Freeman, director of the Presque Isle Utilities District.
The break was reported around 11:30 a.m.
“The break occurred between the Presque Isle Inn & Convention Center and The Sled Shop. It may have been caused by pipe movement, frost — we’re not sure of the exact cause,” he said. “Breaks are more common in wintertime.”
Freeman said it took about seven hours to repair the broken water main and restore service.
“We shut off the water around 11:30 a.m. and had it back on again by 6:30 p.m. Crews had everything filled back in by about 8 p.m.,” said Freeman.
