Youth XC ski program

    The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department is conducting a youth cross country ski program for boys and girls in grades 2-8.

The program will be held on Thursday afternoons from 3-4:15 p.m. beginning Feb. 5 on the ski trails beside the Fort Fairfield Elementary School (please meet in the cafeteria after school) and will continue through early April.
Skiers will be taught the basics of cross country skiing, proper ski care and waxing and all sorts of fun ski games and activities. The instructors will be Tom Towle and others. There is no charge to participate, but contact the recreation department to sign up.

NHSC  Ski Club

    The Nordic Heritage Sport Club is conducting a Saturday morning cross country ski program for boys and girls from five years old up to grade 8 at the Nordic Heritage Center Saturdays from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. through mid-March.
Participants and parents of all skill levels will enjoy the fun and excitement of cross country skiing through games, group ski adventures, and the use of a terrain park.

Cross-country ski rentals

    The parks and recreation department is renting out cross country ski packages again this winter to boys and girls in grades 2-8.
The cost to rent a complete package for the entire winter is $25 for the first family member and $20 for each additional family member.

Adult basketball league begins later this month

    Registrations are being accepted for an adult basketball league that will begin play Feb. 26. Games will be played Monday and Thursday evenings through April 16. Each team will play a minimum of 12 games and the cost is $120 per team. Call 472-3882 for more information or to register a team.

Free skating at the Forum

    The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will provide free skating at the Forum in Presque Isle for all Fort Fairfield residents through Feb. 22, which is the end of school vacation.
The free skating occurs only during public skating hours. For more information, call 472-3882.

Youth travel basketball teams

    The parks and recreation department youth travel team basketball program for both boys and girls is underway.
Any of the girls and boys in grades 4-6 currently participating in the youth basketball program is eligible to participate on the travel teams.

K of C free throw competition

    The Fort Fairfield Knights of Columbus is once again sponsoring the annual K of C Free Throw Competition, which will be held at the community center gymnasium on Monday, Feb. 23 from 3-4:30 p.m.
This program is free for boys and girls ages 9-14 as of Jan. 1, 2015, with boys competing separate from girls in the six different age groups.
The winner in each age group is determined by the most made free throws out of 15 attempts, with each winner at the local level having the opportunity to participate in the K of C District Free Throw Championship, also to be held in Fort Fairfield on Saturday, Feb. 28.
All winners from the districts will qualify to compete in the state championship, to be held in Old Town on March 7. There is no participation fee.

Youth indoor soccer

    Youth co-ed indoor soccer for boys and girls in grades 2-8 will be held at the community center gymnasium Tuesdays and Fridays beginning March 3 and running through April 14.         The program is co-ed and divided into three groups – grades 2-3 from 3-4 p.m., grades 4-5 from 4-5 p.m. and grades 6-8 from 5-6 p.m.
