Honest work for honest pay!

 REMEMBER WHEN

Ricky and I didn’t always “slide on the hill,” and Mack wasn’t around in the years after we spent our time under the snow. We sometimes traveled to Presque Isle to catch a movie or ice skate at the outdoor rink.

One Saturday we decided that we wanted to catch the latest flick at the Braden Theater. Well, neither one of us had the necessary funds to do so. As it happens, though, another neighbor of mine owned a farm and he was harvesting some pulp wood using his horses. Ricky and I went to him to see if we could work the afternoon and earn enough to go to the movie and have some left over for popcorn and a drink. He looked us over and with a gleam in his eye, told us we could pile the four-foot lengths of pulp to earn our money. He said we could have 50 cents per cord to work the afternoon.
You would have thought we had won the lottery. We worked from eleven thirty and finished at just after four that afternoon. We had piled seven and a half cords of pulpwood, earning us three dollars and fifty cents each.
We went home, showered and ate dinner, the thing is, after getting cleaned up and eating dinner neither of us felt like going out. In fact we were both in bed by eight that evening.
The movie came Sunday afternoon. We learned the value of a hard day’s work for an honest dollar and still had fun in doing so.
