The regular season has come to an end for the UMPI men’s and women’s basketball teams.
The Owl men finished at 14-11 following Monday’s 83-68 home victory over Eastern Maine Community College.
Chase Vicaire hit seven three-pointers to account for all 21 of his points. Brandon McGill had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Nick Lenhard had six assists.
UMPI put together a four-game winning streak before falling to UM-Machias Thursday and then rebounding at home against EMCC. The team will find out next Tuesday, Feb. 24 if they will receive one of 10 berths in the USCAA National Tournament.
The recent successful stretch began with a 52-51 win at UM-Fort Kent Feb. 4. Sophomore guard Nick Lenhard completed a three-point play with seven seconds left to give the Owls the victory to avenge an early-season home loss to the Bengals.
On Feb. 6, UMPI got past the Central Maine Community College Mustangs, 73-61.
Trevor Lovely came off the bench to score 16 points in a 78-48 triumph over Unity College Feb. 9. Lovely went 6 for 9 from the field as the Owl bench contributed 50 of the team’s points. Quinton Harris had 11 points and Chase Vicaire notched 11 to go along with a team-best eight rebounds. Jordan McLaughlin of Washburn tossed in a pair of three-pointers and totaled eight points off the bench.
Last Wednesday, the Owls won their fourth game in a row by besting EMCC, 83-61. Vicaire had 19 points and Maurice Harris 18 for UMPI, which exploded for 47 points in the second half.
The streak ended Thursday with a 68-55 loss to the Clippers. The Owls led by six points at intermission, but were outscored 43-24 in the second half. Vicaire led the Owl offense with 16 points and Kevin Collins added 12.
The Owl women finished the campaign by winning three of their last four to end up at 10-14.
In a Feb. 7 contest against CMCC, the Owls were beaten, 81-60. Gabby Fox topped all scorers with 19 points for the winners.
Darby Toth tallied 17 points and Krista Coffin a career-high 12 for UMPI.
On Feb. 15, Rebecca Campbell, Brigitte Pratt and Coffin were all honored on Senior Day at Wieden Gymnasium and the Owls were able to stop the Fisher Falcons, 74-60.
Underclassmen keyed the win as Sydney Churchill nailed four three-pointers on her way to 18 points. Freshman Brianna Losee had 15 points and Toth 13 to go along with seven assists.
Campbell contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Last Wednesday, the Owls grabbed a 42-33 victory over EMCC behind Campbell’s 15 points and 12 rebounds. UMPI trailed by seven points at intermission before rallying.
In Thursday’s 57-34 win at UM-Machias, Pratt fired in a career-high 15 points and also logged six rebounds, while Katie Patenaude tossed in three three-pointers en route to a career-best 11 points. A 16-0 scoring run late in the game secured the victory.
Toth was stellar with 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
