Who has the best girls’ basketball program in the country? USA Today High School Sports is giving fans the opportunity to decide. The next installment of the “Best Of” contest series will be the “Best Girls’ Basketball Program.” Each state, as well as Washington D.C., will have five schools. One of the Maine schools selected is our very own Washburn Lady Beavers.

The first-place winner will receive a $1,000 donation to its athletic department and a banner presentation at the school.
There will be three rounds of voting, with round one ending on Thursday, March 5. To vote for Washburn Lady Beavers, visit http://contest.usatodayhss.com/.

Fifth Gold Ball

The Lady Beavers have brought home the Gold Ball for the fifth year in a row, after winning Saturday’s game against Rangeley Lakers by a score of 60-54. A number of records were set with this year’s win, including a new state record for girls’ teams, with senior Mackenzie Worcester claiming the new state scoring record with 37 points — breaking the older record of 35 — as well as hitting 2,000 points. What a great way to end the season! Congrats to the team. You make us proud to call Washburn home.
