Alta Sturgeon

    STURGEON, Alta, 87, PRESQUE ISLE, February 26, 2015. Spring interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

    PRESQUE ISLE – Alta Sturgeon, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 26, 2015, at the Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle. She was born on December 9, 1927, in Woodland, the daughter of John and Jennie (Pike) Farley, and she grew up in Washburn.
    In 1945, she married Gilford Sturgeon and they resided in Presque Isle. Alta worked for Zayre Dept. Store until her retirement. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Presque Isle. She was loved and will be missed by all.
    The family wishes to express special thanks to the girls at Presque Isle Nursing Home and special thanks to Pastor Ackerson for his prayers and comforting words.
    She is survived by a daughter, Marlene Tompkins of Presque Isle; a son, Bruce Sturgeon and his wife, Marcia, of Mapleton; two grandsons, Kevin Tompkins and his wife, Holly, of Presque Isle, and Travis Sturgeon and his wife, Tina, of Milford; a granddaughter, Megan Bonenfant and her husband, Robbie, of Fort Kent; four great-grandchildren, Avery and Sadie Tompkins of Presque Isle, Kylie Sturgeon of Milford, and Baby B from Fort Kent; a brother, Richard Farley and his wife, Phyllis of Florida; many nieces and nephews.
    She was predeceased by her husband, Gilford Sturgeon; her siblings, Avery, Claudine and Pearl; son-in-law, Jerry Tompkins; and a grandson, Jeffrey Wade Tompkins.
    Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. James Ackerson officiating. Friends called at the church 1 p.m. until time of service.
