    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine In opening season action for the fifth- and sixth-grade basketball leagues, the Clippers took on the Warriors. In this contest, the Warriors’ Faith Sjoberg had a team-high 12 points with teammate Portia Shaw adding seven more and Jenna Sargent and Rossalyn Buck both chipped in free throws.

The Clippers dominated the boards with Meg Casavant ripping down 21 rebounds and scoring a white-hot 38 points, with 22 of them coming in the first half. Point guard Macie Bartley added six second-half points as the Clippers pulled away with a 44-21 victory.
The boys were slated for the next game as the Raptors faced the Bulls. The Raptors had three players in double figures with Xavier McAtee leading the way with 17, Jacob Devine notching 11 and Jackson Maynard chipping in 11. Leroy Gardiner added a layup for the Raptors.
On the Bulls’ side of the court, floor general Jude Mosher had a team-high 14 points, 10 in the final quarter during a comeback attempt. Mason Fletcher added seven points, Ben Duprey notched four and Karsen Winger added a field goal, but the Raptors were too much for the Bulls, 41-27.
In the nightcap of the season-opening triple header, the Hawks and Cavaliers showcased their talents.  The Hawks’ shifty Noah Yarema netted a game-high 22 points with Ryllan Thibault and Devin Osse both adding two each. The Cavaliers’ Chance Bragan had a team-high 13 points with big man Cody Barnes scoring eight and Drew Dunn three, but the Hawks prevailed in a close one, 26-24.
In girls’ action, the Clippers and Warriors went at it again. The Clippers’ Izabelle Higgins had a team high 10 points with Meg Casavant adding seven, Mia Casavant four and Bartley four in their 25-22 triumph. Sjoberg had a game-high 18 points, nailing three-pointers in both the first and fourth quarters, while Sargent added four.
The Mavericks went toe to toe with the Warriors in action on Thursday. The Mavs’ Hattie Bubar showcased her shooting ability by scoring 15 points, including a late 3-pointer. Rhylee Kinney and Myah Bragdon added two points each.
The Warriors finally got things rolling in their third game with Sjoberg leading the way with 15, Sargent adding a season-high 12 points and Portia Shaw netting in their 37-19 win.
