County players set to participate in McDonald’s basketball weekend

    BANGOR, Maine — Officials with the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) announced the A/B East and West and C/D East and West girls’ and boys’ player selections for the 2015 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star basketball games, to be played Saturday at Newman Gymnasium on the Husson University campus.

Players representing high schools from across the state have been honored with selection to the all-star teams. The teams were selected based upon ballot returns in a statewide high school basketball coaches’ vote conducted by the MABC in January.

Local players selected to the elite teams included Hannah Graham and Krystal Kingsbury, both of Presque Isle; Megan Jellison of Fort Fairfield and Mackenzie Worcester of Washburn.
Diana Trams and Randy Norsworthy, coaches of the Washburn girls and boys teams, will be among the coaches of the all-star teams.
The game-day program will feature head-to-head competition between top players in the state in East vs. West basketball action.
Times for each of the contests are as follows: 8:30-9 a.m., state foul shooting championship; 9:15-10:30 a.m., boys’ A/B game; 10:45-noon, girls’ A/B game; noon-12:15 p.m., MABC presentations; 12:15-12:30 p.m., three-point shooting competition; 12:30-12:45 p.m., slam dunk competition; 1-2:15 p.m., girls’ C/D game; and 2:30-3:45 p.m., boys’ C/D game.
Rosters for the East teams are, A/B girls: Graham and Kingsbury, Mary Butler and Cordelia Stewart, both of Bangor; Julia Champagne, Brunswick; Morgan Carver, Gardiner; Hannah Marks, Medomak Valley; Sarah Phelps, Mount Desert Island; Mikayla Charters, Nokomis; Anna Winslow, Oxford Hills; and Emily Keene, Spruce Mountain. The coaches are Joe Johnson of Bangor and Brent Barker of Mount Desert Island.
C/D Girls: Jellison, Worcester; Madison McVicar, Calais; Bre Schofield, Central; Christine Miller, Maranacook; Alex Speed, Piscataquis; Lexi Hoxie, Schenck; Kennedi Smith, Southern Aroostook; Felisha Bouchard and Courtney Parent, both of Van Buren. Serving as coach along with Trams is Heather Thompson of Narraguagus.
A/B Boys: Liam Stokes, Cony; Lew Jensen and Ian Mileikis, both of Edward Little; Isaiah Harris, Lewiston; Nick Mayo, Messalonskee; Ethan Winglass, Morse; Mason Griffin, Mt. Ararat; Eric Hoogterp, Old Town; Deonte Ring, Spruce Mountain; and Justin Martin, Winslow. Coaching the team are Mike Adams of Edward Little and Jared Browne of Winslow.
C/D Boys: Kyle Johnson and Tyler Niles, both of Calais; Bailey Spack, Dexter; Kelsey Allen, George Stevens Academy; Kyle Bouchard, Houlton; Nate Burns and Tristan French, Piscataquis; Ryan Leavitt, Schenck; and Gage Feeney and Austin Seavey, both of Washington Academy. Norsworthy will coach alongside Jamie Russell of Piscataquis.
All-star players and coaches, Mr. and Miss Basketball finalists, regional foul shooting champions, members of the all-state academic teams, Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award recipients, the MABC Contributor Award honoree and Team of the Year recipients will be honored at an awards banquet on Friday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
The Mr. Basketball finalists are Houlton’s Bouchard, Messalonskee’s Mayo and Falmouth’s Jack Simonds. Graham is a Miss Basketball finalist along with Ashley Storey of Greely and Victoria Lux of Thornton Academy.
The foul-shooting champs were for boys, Robbie Watson of Fort Fairfield, Logan Wood of Machias, Derek LeBlanc of Madison and Dan O’Brion of Cheverus; and for girls, Worcester, Lauren Raye of Washington Academy, Hannah Marks of Medomak Valley and Chloe Smedley of York.
The MABC all-state academic teams include, for boys, Watson; Ethan Murphy, Cape Elizabeth; Liam Stokes, Cony; Lew Jensen, Edward Little; Galen Davis, George Stevens Academy; Noah Holmes, Houlton; Noah Caret and Trevor Gettig, both of Messalonskee; Derek Michaud, Poland; and Bobby Chenard, Winslow.
For girls, Anna Maxsimic, Brewer; Abby Jordan, Dexter; Michaela White, Dexter; Jessica Burton, Falmouth; Ashley Woodbury, Gorham; Paige Belanger and Abigail Weigang, both of Lawrence; Elizabeth D’Angelo, Maranacook; Mary Furlong, McAuley; and Alyssa Wood, Winslow.
